Mennonite in a Little Black Dress

What do you do when your husband has left you for a guy named Bob off of gay.com? You go back to your roots...which just so happens to be with the very simple, conservative mennonites. AND you write a memoir like this that is laugh out loud funny, sentimental, and full of a determination to survive. This author went through more than just what her husband did to her, but she brings you through these obstacles with a sense of humour. Her family is HILARIOUS. And individuality is always a plus, so watching her going against the grind and accepting the criticism was inspiring, because that can just be so hard to do. This was a little like a David Sedaris book in that respect.

I learned a lot about mennonite lifestyle through this fast read by Rhonda Janzen. You won't always agree with her, sometimes you'll even say "you idiot!", but her flaws make her even more endearing. Not perfectly written, but full of enough wit and charm that you feel good about her and yourself by the end.
