The Night Circus

This novel about a circus that only appears at night, and works on real magic started out so strong. It starts with the early lives of the two main characters - a female born into magic, and a male taught it (like a "muggle") and how they are "arranged" to compete with one another by two competitive magicians before they even know one another.

The two end up falling in love which causes problems, of course. The love story wasn't well built, so I felt like it was like they met and boom, they loved each other. Kind of like how if you watch Jersey Shore and how after two hours Deena will say she is in love with a guy she met at a club.

I also felt that the competition was a poor plot. There was no answer to "why?" there was a competition and "why?" the two competitive magicians felt the need to ruin two young loves, along with the sanity of the circus (the circus served as the platform for the competition).

The ending made no sense, and by the time it was over I kind of asked myself "what happened here?"?
